Health ClusterNET are delighted to announce that its 3rd Annual Conference will be held in Bilbao on 9 October 2008. The focus of the conference is "Delivering added value health sector investment in European Regions".
The timing of this event is very relevant. A challenge shared by all European regional health systems in a financial climate where cost containment, restriction and rationalization of health care dominates is that health organisations need to be able to show the added value of investment and expenditure decisions.
In its first phase as an Interreg IIIC funded operation HCN and its partner regions examined some of the practicalities of how health sector investment can contribute to regional development through four strategic activities: local procurement, affordable capital investment, inclusive employment and health innovation clusters.
An online survey of EU regions conducted by HCN and DG SANCO in late 2007 confirmed that regions most need access to practical “know-how” knowledge to support them in working out how they can improve the contribution of their regional health systems to regional economic growth and social cohesion. In response, in its second phase as an independent non-profit interregional organisation owned by member regions, HCN supports regions with the development and sharing of practical know-how to maximize the contribution of health sector investments to regional development.
In this Conference we will discuss these issues and reflect on agreements reached at a European Regional Health Policy Roundtable hosted by the Basque Health Minister in Bilbao on 8 October.
